Entry is invited for the forthcoming Queensland Trailable Yacht Championship to be conducted in conjunction with Airlie Beach Race Week.  This event is eligible to boats with a current CBH in accordance with Australian Class Based Handicap (CBH) Rating System

1.    Rules

  • The regatta will be governed by:
  • The rules as defined by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) of World Sailing (WS) and the Prescriptions of Australian Sailing
  • The Australian Sailing (AS) Special Regulations Part 1 – Category 5
  • The Australian Sailing Class Based Handicap (CBH) system as detailed at https://www.sailingresources.org.au/cbh-rating/
  • Boats without a current CBH are ineligible to compete in the Queensland Trailable Yacht & Sports Boat Championships, but may compete in Airlie Beach Race Week.

2.    Safety

  • In addition to the requirements of AS Special Regulations Part 1 – Category 5, boats shall additionally carry a VHF radio in accordance with AS Special Regulations Part 1, Clause 3.25.
  • All boats shall carry sufficient fuel at the start of each race for four hours of motoring.
  • In addition to daily reporting requirements, boats will be required to submit a daily crew list.

3.    Divisions & Ratings

  • Subject to entries, there will be 4 divisions as defined in clauses 2.2 and 2.3 of the Australian Sailing Class Based Handicap (CBH) Rating System for Trailable Yachts and Sports Boats as follows:
    • Standard Trailable Yacht
    • Standard Sports Boat
    • Open Sports Boat
    • Open Trailable Yacht
  • Boats will be allocated to a division by the Organising Authority after consultation with Australian Sailing.
  • Boats will be rated and / or handicapped as shown below:

  • The Organising Authority reserves the right to adjust the eligibility criteria and/or reallocation of boats in the interests of fair competition. The determination of eligibility criteria and the allocation of boats to particular classes or divisions shall not be grounds for protest or redress. This alters RRS 62.1(a).
  • A minimum of five (5) entries constitutes a division.

4.    Entry

  • Boats entered in Airlie Beach Race Week, who comply with the above eligibility, will be automatically entered in the Queensland Trailable Yacht & Sport Boat Championships. Boats who do not comply with the above eligibility will be entered into Airlie Beach Race Week only.  Should you wish to get your boat measured prior to this event you can do so here: https://www.sailingresources.org.au/cbh-rating/
  • Entry to the Queensland Trailable Yacht & Sports Boat Championships is included by entering Airlie Beach Race Week at https://www.abrw.com.au
  • There is no additional entry fee for the Queensland Trailable Yacht & Sport Boat Championships.
  • International and interstate competitors are eligible to compete, however, they will not be eligible for the Queensland Championship Title unless the boat is registered in Queensland.
  • Skippers and crew shall be members of a club affiliated with Australian Sailing or a World Sailing MNA. A SailPass is available through the club for the regatta should your crew not be a member of an affiliated club.

5.    Schedule of Races

  • Races will be conducted concurrently with Airlie Beach Race Week races, with results being dual scored as per Section 7 (Scoring)

  • There may be up to 9 races conducted in the series.

6.    Sailing Instructions

  • It is the intention of the race committee for the Sailing Instructions to be posted on the event Web site by Thursday 3rd August 2023.

7.    Scoring

  • Two races are required to be completed to constitute a series.
  • When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
  • When 5 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

8.    Media

  • Participants at this event automatically grant to the organising authority and the sponsors of the event, the right in perpetuity, to make use and show from time to time and at their discretion, any motion pictures, still pictures and live, taped or film television and other reproductions of them during the period in which they participate, and in all material related to the event without compensation.

9.    Prizes

  • Medals will be awarded to the first three placed boat in each division if there is sufficient entries.
